Yiannis Kastritis was born on April 4th 1982, in Tripoli. He started his career in 2005 in Apolloniada Patras, which participated in the 3rd National Championship. In the next two years (2006-2008) he was a member of the technical staff of the Olympiad Patras, which competed in the A1, by Yiannis Christopoulos.

 From 2009 to 2012 he worked as an assistant coach in Arkadikos. In 2012 he was promoted to number one coach of the Tripoli team. With him on the bench, the Arcadians secured the A1 lead in the 2014-2015 season, scoring second place in the A2 Championship. Kastritis became coach of the year in the second class.

During  the 2015-2016 season, he made the A1 debut as number one coach with Arkadikos. In the summer of 2016 he took over the technical leadership of Trikala, which led to the best season of their history and the 10th place in the A1, with a record of 10 wins and 16 defeats.

In May 2017 he signed with Kymi, with which he scored  7th place in the regular season last year (2017-2018), ensuring, for the first time in their history, participation in the playoffs. On 25th of November 2018, he submitted his resignation from the team of Evia.

Since February 2018, he belongs to the team of Federal coaches, working in small National teams.
