Vangelis Angelou was born in Chalkida, on November 11, 1962. As a professional basketball player, he played for Apollon Patras (1984-1987), Olympiacos (1987-1992), Panionios (1992-1995) and Iraklis (1995-1996).

Immediately after his retirement, he began his coaching career from A.G.E. Chalkida.

He then worked at ARIS as an assistant coach under Milan Minic.

From 2003 to 2005 he was the assistant coach of Panagiotis Giannakis at Maroussi.

The next two seasons (2005-2007) he worked as an assistant next to Dusan Ivkovic at Dynamo Moscow, where he won the Uleb Cup (2006).

He then moved to AEK Athens as a head coach (2007-2008) and after that to Trikala (2008-2009).

The seasons 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 he worked again as an assistant coach of Dusan Ivkovic, this time for Olympiacos with which he won the Euroleague (2012).

From 2012 to December 2013 he was ARIS’ head coach. Afterwards, he moved to Anadolu Efes till the end of the season.

Coach Angelou collaborated with Dusan Ivkovic for the third time, as he was the assistant uder the Serbian, at Anadolu Efes (2014-2016).

He became the head coach of Promitheas Patras in December 2016, where he remained till the end of the season.
